My uncle, Bill Ellis, is undergoing major lung surgery today in Portland, OR. They are 99.9% sure the mass is benign but surgery is the only way to know for sure. The Thoracic surgeon is named Dr. Irish. And the Pulmonologist is Dr. Kelly if you would like to pray for both by name this morning. He'll be in the hospital for at least a week and then at home recovering for about three weeks. Please pray that the mass truly is benign and that he has the best possible recovery and outcome through all of this. The kicker is he's agnostic but the people who are telling him they are praying for him is strengthening his belief in faith every day. He was a smoker but quit over 25 years ago and his parents are both very healthy 90+ year olds. I just want for him to live that long too and if he discovers there really is a Savior through this experience, so be it. I will be at the women's Banquet as of tomorrow but will try and update when I get home on Sunday unless we
find something out today. The below is from an email from him for all you medical types....
Here is the basic summary:
The PET scan shows no indication of any cancer over my entire chest area. This is a scan that lights up high metabolic growth cells (if they exist), which is the basic characteristic of cancer cells. The PET scan confirmed the mass existed, but with all the characteristics of being benign; i.e. entirely low metabolic growth rate. This test is considered 85% certain (very conservatively).
The CT scan confirmed the mass in my right lung, lower lobe slightly bigger than a golf ball (about 3 by 6 centimeters), with a smaller lesion on it.
The location of the mass does not allow for a bronchoscopy (spelling?) test to further confirm there is no malignancy.
In Him
